LOVE LOST AT SEA

You asked me to marry you, and of course I said “yes”

Anxious to commit our love, and let God do the rest
Young loves, devoted entrusting ourselves to eternity
As fate would have it that would never be
We were just beginning our engaged life together

When you decided to go fishing in stormy weather
I begged you not to go, because it wasn’t a good day
You were so excited, you chose to go anyway
Your best friend Rick had just purchased a used boat
Tragically, he could not keep it afloat
Your best friend, you and brother were presumed drowned
They said "the boat capsized, and you were the last one down"
All I could do was pray and scream out your name
Then my mind began playing the denial game
I expected at any moment, for you to walk through the door
So that our happy life together would be forevermore

Sitting on your mom’s sofa, and watching the evening news
A detective mentioned something about their new found clues
Seeing the black body bag which had just been retrieved
Underneath the Golden Gate Bridge
Damn it
 This I could not conceive

That it was you, they’ve found after six whole weeks

My heart torn out, and bleeding, I couldn’t even speak
Prior to this, we had the memorial service

Still asking myself “what did I do to deserve this?”
For twenty plus years I’ve compared men to you
You treated me like a queen, yet they didn’t know what to do
I couldn’t understand why God took my fiance’, my friend
There’s been a hole in my heart ever since then
Our blissful life together would never be
Forever my love, lost at sea
