THE NIGHTMARE THAT KILLED HER DREAMS By Antoinette Denise Johnson

The next time you think
of calling her a name
Make sure to ask yourself,
"Is this what she was named at birth?"
"Or is it one to strip her of her worth?"
You see, words hurt worse than bruises.
Stabbing at the seams of the soul!
Replaying nonstop 'til
unworthiness takes toll!
Yes words hurt worse than bruises!
That "sticks and stones" saying is useless!
Because words don't go away after awhile,
They constantly eat away at that inner child.
 Vulnerable, and fragile,invisible wounds
growing transparently bigger each day.
This is why you must be careful of what you say.
Words are forever, they never go away!
Before you call the woman you claim to love
anything other than her name.
Ask yourself,
"Would I call my mother the same?"
"Would I say it to my Grandmother?
sister, my baby girl?"
All your favorite
"women" in the world?
Would you shout it from the highest of mountain tops?
If your answer is "No", then you need to stop!
Because words are thoughts!
And thoughts are things,
Wouldn't you rather call her a Queen?
Then, she would call you King?
But the amazing thing
is
you helped to uplift her self-esteem
instead of being the nightmare
that killed her dreams.

WHEN LIFE IS HARD

When life is hard,
Trust in God!
He'll see you through,
In all you do!
Through pain that you feel,
He'll do His will!
The tears you cry,
Let them flow!
For where there is rain,
Flowers grow!
Those screams you "SHOUT"!
"HE'LL WORK IT OUT!"
So on your knees,
You kneel and pray!
Thank the Lord!
He made a way!

LOVE YOU TO DEATH

The first time he hits you isn’t the first time he’s abused you.
First he called you names, controlled and verbally misused you.

You think it’s cute that he wants you all to himself,
That is until, you somehow totally lose yourself.

Look in the mirror, unrecognized reflection,
For true love, you’ve mistaken deception!

He does not love you! He’s just a control freak!
To make himself feel stronger, he makes you feel weak!

So weak, that you’ve lost all your self esteem!
Where is the love now?
 …Merely a pipe dream.

But he’s just a sociopath, who just loves to charm.
Wait until he kisses, you while twisting your arm!

Wait until he pushes you into the tub on your back!
Wait until you land so hard you feel your tailbone crack!

While you’re on the phone talking to 9-1-1
He boldly puts to your temple a loaded 45 gun!

Trust me, it’s not cool begging and pleading for your life!
To the man who asked you to “lovingly” be his wife.

The honeymoon is the “I’m sorry’s and “See what you made me do’s”
Only until the next time he blackens and blues you!

Please, for your children, you have to plan to get away!
The cycle will just continue if you decide to stay.

The kids will grow up and think that love is supposed to hurt,
Falling in love with someone who treats them like dirt.

You must plan, save some money, pack a bag!
Hindsight is 20/20, you saw the red flags!

His subtle manipulation “Baby stay home with me tonight!”
With full blinders on you sweetly say “Alright.”

Don’t just wait around for him to suddenly change.
Before then, you’ll find out he’s completely deranged!

Please make an escape plan without him knowing,
Or six feet under is the only place you’ll be going!

PuRgE!

PuRgE!!

The smoke cleared
from my disoriented haze.
I now must deal
with your cheating ways.

The sun is shining
I’m repulsed by
your reflection!

Life’s stepping stones
lead me in the opposite
direction.

The distaste of my tongue,
mouthwatering bitterness.
You weren’t man enough
to come confess.

See as a real woman,
I must do this!
And rid my life
of your foolishness.

I have the urge to purge!
Your venomous degradations!
Invisible lacerations!
Those permanent contusions,
caused by paranoid delusions.

Guilt filled innuendos,
causing the “I told you so’s!”
I have the urge to purge!
Your predictable fabrication!
Verbal annihilation!
Love masked infatuation!

Your steel toe boot,
stomped on my heart!
Reality being ,
we were never meant
to be from the start!

So.....

I have the urge to purge!
Your public humiliations!
Controlling stipulations!
This is my
evacuation of accusations!

All your put me downs
and
no time to be around
me!
Makes it easy to be
that
no where to be found
me!
I told you “if you cheated on me
that’s IT
We’re through!”

I must to go to the restroom
as
I have the urge to purge!
myself
of
YOU!

MY GRANDBABY BOY~KHALIL~

When my world was dark,

filled with despair.

MY heart opened when

God put you there.

No words can describe

this new found joy!

that I’ve found in you,

my new Grand-baby boy!

No greater love,

I am so blessed to feel!

I thank God for you,

my little

KHALIL!

HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY!

(You’re not little any more! But

you’ll always be my baby!)

LOVE G-MA!

DEADBEAT

You met for the first time in the checkout line
Shared your first Thanksgiving when Kelvin was five
All day in the window on December 25th
waited so patiently to receive his first wish

Lovable little boy, didn’t wish for a new toy
Wished for quality time, just Dad and his boy
He sat for hours looking out of the front window
Watching the cars, waiting for Mr. No Show

Five years late, like everything is okay
No, I won’t let you treat my son this way
He is not an old book gathering dust on a shelf
You’re missing out, while thinking only of yourself

A father’s love is supposed to be sacred
Your absence has filled his heart with hatred
I replace that hatred with a Mother’s love
My son is a blessing from God above

I don’t hate you, but I hate what you’ve done
But we are just fine, me and my son
It’s too bad! You have a son you don’t even know
He went to the Championship in Taekwondo

Now back again, ten years after
Awkward silence replace joy and laughter
No real explanation for what you’ve done
Still happy to be seen by my son

Yes! I still call him my son only
Where were you when he was lonely?
Where were you?
When for YOU he asked?
How do you make up for his life that has passed?

Well when he succeeds, don’t remember his name!
Remember, you were just a “DEADBEAT” that never came!

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

I guess it was too good to be true.

Yeah, you loved me and I loved you.

I guess love wasn’t enough for us.

What is love? If there is no trust?

I don’t think you trusted me from the start.

I think you will forever have a broken heart.

Broken, until you are true to yourself.

Only then will you be free to love anyone else.

I feel you held what she did against me!

One day you’ll be wise enough to see,

that you missed out on a love so rare.

A love so pure, from a heart that cares.

I guess it was too good to be true!

And I wish that I never loved you!
